I don’t know what it is about this week but we’ve been able to pat a ton of cats!!! But I’m not complaining..
This week went soooo fast!!! Fastest week of my mission?? But also some of the slowest days EVER! We worked super hard this week but didn’t get to see a lot of lessons go through..but that’s ok, because we saw so many miracles with all of the good things that happened! We did exchanges with the Delta sisters this week…. I got to work with the amazing Sister Reed from New Mexico! She’s going to be a math teacher..and we made good salad. The day our temporary car decided to start making bad noises and stop working was the same day we got our white car back!! We prayed, then half an hour later it started working again and so we could drive to Richmond to drop it off.
Miracle #1 (I WILL count the miracles!! Because it’s the same as counting blessings!!)
B—— came to church!! Remember that wild young mother from November? Well, she’s back! And we’re going to teach her again. We think she liked church, although she was surprised how long it was..haha.
E—-!!! She’s a new investigator..we met her on the street as we were knocking doors at some houses and set up a return appointment..but when we went no one was home..so we decided to drop by the next day and she was home and excited to see us! She’d been at work until 11pm the night before..But get this – she’s married, owns a house, has a job and a car, AND IS EXCITED ABOUT THE BOOK OF MORMON. When we introduced 3 Nephi 11 to her and explained that this was about Jesus Christ visiting the people in America and that he loves all people around the world, she said “This is so familiar!! I’ve heard this before!! I’m getting goosebumps all over!!” She. Is. Amazing.
This Fijian Indian Hindu woman just waltzes up at church on Sunday. She’s open to any religion etc. She said that she’s walked past this church a ton but never been inside..and get this. It was the first Sunday our bishop started the Hindi Sunday School class. And she loved it and is coming back again next week!!!
On a sadder note…We had to pass our recent convert C—– to the elders to teach. Let’s just say – don’t ever make inappropriate jokes about missionaries when your coworker who is taking lessons with you, is the bishop !! Because then, the missionaries have to change!! and we were so sad!! But we gave C— a parting gift of scriptures with his name engraved on them… he almost cried when he opened it!
But anyway, this week I’ve had really awesome studies!! I’ve been reading in 3 Nephi, and just started in Matthew and I’m studying the way Christ taught..It’s changing the way I teach!! He usually starts off with a relatable story or parable…then he asks a soul searching question. All the questions are to help people make the connection between the story and the moral of the story!! Most of the time they’re rhetorical too but that aside… only then does he start teaching doctrine. He uses short statements too.. we’ve been talking about this as a district a little and we all feel like this is the better way to teach! After all, Christ was the perfect gospel teacher!!
Anyway, we’re going on a road trip today to White Rock!! google it..it’s practically in the USA!
Quote about our work in Surrey (ha):
“The Lord works from the inside out. The world works from the outside in. The world would take people out of the slums. Christ takes the slums out of people, and then they take themselves out of the slums. The world would mold men by changing their environment. Christ changes men, who then change their environment. The world would shape human behavior, but Christ can change human nature.” -Ezra Taft Benson
